NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IN KIDS? – USE PARENTAL CONTROL APPS TO SAVE THEM
New technologies such as the internet, smartphones, videogames, virtual reality, augmented reality and many other aspects have totally revolutionized the way we buy, behave, work, travel and interact with other people and have also assumed the development of new psychological problems.
All these technologies have had a great impact on psychology, since, on the one hand, psychological problems have arisen related to technological advances, and, on the other hand, technology has meant an advance in the diagnosis and treatment of certain psychological disorders.
The psychological problems related to technology
1.Nomophobia
This disorder involves an irrational fear of being without the mobile phone. The word nomophobia derives from “no-mobile-phone-phobia”. Many people have a total dependence on mobile, so when they do not have it they feel completely isolated. The symptoms of this disorder are headache and stomach pain, anxiety, stress, obsessive thinking. It is a disorder that occurs frequently in adolescents.
2.Imaginary call syndrome
Sometimes it happens to us that we have the feeling that the phone vibrates or that it has sounded and then it turns out that it is not like that. There are people who have this feeling continuously and suffer from what is called the imaginary call syndrome. The human brain tends to relate any impulse it receives to the mobile which causes us to think immediately that it is sounding or vibrating.
3.Internet dependency
Currently we are almost permanently connected to the internet due to smartphones, social networks, chat rooms, contact pages and many more. If we do not know how to put a limit the dependence of the internet can produce anxiety, stress and alterations in our behaviour, as well as isolation.
4.Online video game dependency
A derivation of the dependence on the internet is the dependence on online videogames. There are people who have generated an addiction to online games in such a way that they have spent days without sleep to achieve a level up.
As a result of the above, programs have been created to overcome this addiction that work in a similar way to those established for drug addicts or alcohol addicts.
New technologies and the treatment of psychological problems
On the other side of the scale we have the benefits of new technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of problems and psychological disorders of various kinds. On the one hand, the internet has allowed the emergence of virtual psychologists who allow assistance to people who otherwise would not have access (elderly or people with reduced mobility).
On the other hand, the technology has allowed the diagnosis and treatment of disorders such as the parental control apps. With apps like FamilyTime, parents can manage tech use of their kids and can even decide what their kids can do with their devices and what not. With the app, parents can see the app preferences of their kids, time they spend on these apps and nonetheless block or limit the use of apps they don’t find appropriate for their kids. They can also lock their devices remotely and much more. To see what are other offered features and how do the explained features work, try the app now for free and see yourself.
New technologies, therefore, have positive and negative aspects in relation to psychological problems and disorders and represent a challenge in both senses that will have to overcome with by being digital parents.

Technology is useful to us but the importance of it depends on how we use it. Just like how teens adapt technology, it could take them in danger if they are not careful. It’s a good thing to have workshop like this to all teachers for them to know the importance and the use of every technology.
