Stratford Platform Bed Review – Thanks Bedframes.com

When I first got my king size mattress I got a rather cheap just metal bed frame that was extremely basic and nothing really much to look at. Sadly, it didn’t last more than a couple of years and for the past year I’ve been sleeping on the mattress on some wood on the floor. It… hasn’t exactly been comfortable or easy to get in and out of. I mourned, a little at least, my former queen sized canopy bed. I didn’t want to deal with curtains and a canopy bed again though, as the layout of my bedroom means the fan is a little too close to the top of such a bed for my comfort. Meh..

So while searching for bed frame options for not only myself,  but the kids as well, I found BedFrames.com

Yeah, usually I shop for most things on other websites, and I’ve never thought to look at a place that you’d think by the name would be an obvious choice. Yet… here I am.

I wanted something pretty, but not too far up in the air. I also didn’t want something the cats could drag stuff under, or that was too  high up that too much could get shoved under it. I’m so over having to clean out from under my bed. I’m bad at just stashing stuff there and forgetting about it. So I went with a platform bed option.

I saw Stratform Platform Bed and it was instant love. I’d never had a plush headboard before! They’re so pretty!! Some people I watch on YouTube had them and I love how they look. Plus, no bashing my head on the wall or hard wood frame in the middle of the night. It’s pretty much a match made in heaven.

Overall, the price of the this bed frame set isn’t bad at all. I paid over $700 for the canopy bed I had before, but the Stratford Platform Bed is only $375. I could have gone with just a headboard and a more basic frame, but I loved the way the entire bed itself looked.

This actually arrived in the mail for me right before my surgery. So, I couldn’t really build it as I couldn’t lug around the heavy boxes and was on lifting and activity restrictions for 3 weeks. Then I caught a minor infection in the wound so I was trying to be careful not to keep pulling it open as it was finally closing up. So I am just now finally getting to it.

 

Yesterday, I finally was feeling okay after how busy we’ve been and recovery and all that jazz. Plus Kat didn’t work and it was a nice mellow day. So it was the perfect time to hunker down and get to work! To note, yeah, I probably could have done this all by myself. However, I really wanted to give the girls a chance to work on things so they learn some skills in building furniture. Hey, better now than when they’re older and on their own and can’t make heads or tails of instructions and how to screw things together. Right? Heh..

The pictures are going to mostly be of the girls doing work. I did help, a bit, but I let them do a fair bit because they wanted to do it too. So.. eh, I helped with instructions, handing over pieces, and tightening work. Plus work on the middle sections of things and lower right corner of the bed in general. Above you can see Kat had at work connecting the left leg to the headboard. 

The headboard for the Stratford Platform bed actually has three legs. Two are cute and covered in fabric, and one is just a metal one with a simple little foot thing. I attached the middle leg, but then took pictures of the girls as they worked. Hey, it was helping right?

Some other steps happened before this, but I didn’t get pictures. Mainly it was just adding the little feet on the foot board,  so not exactly something that needs to be documented. It was easy! Above, Kat is putting in bolts to put the side rail on this side of the bed. 

At the same time, Lisi was working on the opposite side. I just made sure they had the correct bolts and washers, and from there they did the same to the foot board as well.

Next up came adding the slats! We were getting so close to the Stratford Platform bed being done that we were getting excited, but also tired and reminded that we hadn’t had dinner yet. Oops!! So – support slats! This was an interesting little system that required a lot of plastic pieces, and some slightly curved slats! Interesting… I wasn’t sure how it was going to work out, but in the end it went just fine. 

Oh, first of course we had to also attach the center bar, and the two support legs as well as three flat wooden supports as well! Lisi and I sat inside the bed as we were working on getting in slats until there was no space left for us. You can see part of Kat’s legs off to the side, she was sitting there at this point. 😛

Finally…

We were done! I know this process would have taken a lot longer if I didn’t have help, but overall found the bed very easy to make and very nice. A couple of things were a little tough at certain moments, and the instructions could use a little more fleshing out to be honest, but I think that’s pretty standard for things you have to build yourself. At least, that’s been my experience so far.

Bedframes.com has a limited lifetime warranty on all their items, plus they have a 30 day from delivery return policy. There is a restocking fee unless there is an issue with the material or workmanship. On top of this, they offer free shipping on all items shipped within the continental US. Which is nice, because I can only imagine seeing a shipping cost on the two heavy boxes we got would have made me run from the idea of getting it. Man, free shipping really does get to your head eh?

Overall I really do have to say that I am very happy with the experience of both building and sleeping on my new Stratford Platform bed.

I took away the wood that was under our mattress for awhile and just let the slats do their work, WAY more comfortable than I’ve been sleeping in awhile! The cats have been very interested in my bed now as well, both just sleeping near it and on it more since we’ve built the new frame. I am so glad that Bedframes.com has a great selection and friendly customer service, they offer a variety of sizes and styles of bed, along with basic options if you just need something basic to start with and want to add a headboard later. I highly recommend checking them out when you’re in the market for a bed frame next.

I’ve got more planned for updating my bedroom that I can’t wait to share with you all! Getting our mattress off the floor and having a great bed frame is just a start. Including replacing the blinds, clearing out some of the clutter and replacing my desk. Plus… well, more that I’ll keep a secret for now. ♥
