I have to admit I was super excited when Nintendo reached out to me about their upcoming releases a few months ago. I’d never gotten to play certain games due to not having some consoles whe I was younger, plus they had new games to talk about as well!
I was also thrilled as heck that I actually got sent two games to try out for the very first time~! So thank you to Nintendo for sending me the following games for the kids and I to enjoy and for me to talk about.
I selected the games Paper Mario – The Thousand-Year Door, a revamp of the original game that came out back on the Nintendo GameGube way back when. I haven’t had a ton of time to play it all, but I’ve enjoyed what I have played so far. On top of that, I got to watch someone stream part of it as well. I’ve never played any Paper Mario game before, so getting to enjoy it and have a reason to use my Switch (which I need to use more I admit haha) is so much fun. The graphics are cute, I love the paper cut out design that feels like enjoying the game from the lense of a popup book, I can almost smell the paper! The whimiscal vibe of the design choice really gets to me.
I also love the turn based combat, as that’s what I am used to in games I played when I was younger. The traditional RPG elements combined with the puzzles, paper abilities, and overall exploration available in this game make me feel a little sad that I didn’t get to experience the original when I was younger. Still, I’m thrilled to get the chance now!
For me this game is a great addition to the Switch library of games, and I highly recommend it regardless on if you played it on the GameCube or are just picking it up for the first time.
Overall I would give Paper Mario – TYD an 7.5/10
One reason I’ll admit I’m a little late in posting this, is I wanted to also wait for the second game. Which is Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD! It’s a fun and spooky adventure getting to enjoy haunted mansions with Luigi. Who’s scared like usual! There are fun puzzles, ghosts to hunt, and the graphics are very nicely done! It’s actually my first time playing either of the Luigi’s Mansion games, so I’ll admit I am a bit behind on when it comes to games. Admittedly, I don’t feel like I often have much time to do what I actually want to do. So it’s nice to get to take a break and visit Nintendo titles. More so since I didn’t have a 3DS to be able to play Luigi’s Mansion 2 back when it originally game out.
I would say that the game is an 8/10 for me. With overall a great design, fun gameplay, great music, and is a perfect way to play the game for the first time. Or heck, to just experience it on more recent hardware and get more use out of your Nintendo Switch! 😉
So far, between the two, I am having the most fun on Luigi’s Mansion 2, but that might be because I’ve spent more time on it? I don’t know, but I will for sure be finishing them both!

I appreciate your review of these two games. I used to play the old Mario games a lot when I was younger.

I love the Mario games, especially Luigi’s Mansion! It’s been so long since I played it, though. Thanks for the reviews!

This article made me even more excited about these releases! *Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door* and *Luigi’s Mansion 2* are such great picks for the Switch. The charm and humor of *Paper Mario* combined with the spooky fun of *Luigi’s Mansion* sound like a perfect mix for any gamer. I love how both games bring something unique to the table in terms of gameplay and atmosphere. Which of the two games would you recommend diving into first for someone who hasn’t played either?

Exciting news for Nintendo fans! Both *Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door* and *Luigi’s Mansion 2* coming to the Switch feels like a dream come true for those of us who love classic Nintendo adventures. These games have such unique charm—*Paper Mario* with its witty storytelling and engaging combat, and *Luigi’s Mansion* with its spooky, fun ghost-hunting. How do you think these remasters will compare to the originals, especially with the updated graphics on the Switch?
