As you know, I enjoy playing some board games, and I’m trying to get Risi (who will be 9 in November) used to playing some as well. I enjoy playing games on the computer as well, particularly games I know like Solitaire, Uno, and more.
I played a lot of games growing up, so I am trying to see about getting Risi to understand the rules of certain games.
I was lucky to come across a website that has a large amount of board games able to be played online! They even have Uno, though you’d play it against the computer, I did notice that have Uno with Friends, that allows you to actually play against your own friends. Making it easy to play without keeping track of all the cards in the house.
I loved to play games like Connect 4, Checkers, and Simon Says when I was little. Being able to play them on the computer or even on my phone without having to try and find an app that isn’t too much trouble to use is really nice I’ve got to admit!
I still actually enjoy paying Simon and Checkers to this day, and while I did enjoy Connect 4o while we had it, it’s sadly missing too many of the pieces right now. So I have to buy a new one, in the meantime having it online is good for me! XD
On top of that, the website has Math games that will help Risi learn math skills while also have a good time.
Risi actually decided to start going to in person school this year, so things I can find that will help her learn but also have a good time and not make things overly stressful is very important to us right now. I love that there are math games that work on division and multiplication, right now Ris is in the 3rd grade and those are skills she’ll be learning/expanding on this year.
Though I have to admit the pandemic made things a bit rough in certain ways, I’m really glad that learning games can help kids have fun and grow at the same time.
One game that Risi has played and enjoys so far is called Math Boy, which lets you pick from addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or a mix for what kind of mathematical operations you want to complete in order to help fight off the monsters before they attack you.
It’s a great game that isn’t very hard to play at all, and while it took her a little to feel like she could do it without being too stressed, it’s a lot of fun. I’ve even ended up playing it a few times not realizing that I’ve passed as much time as I have!
Aside from math games and board games from my youth, I’ve been enjoying the wide array of other games too. Both the ones I’ve been playing when I have some down time or just need to mentally chill, or ones I’ve had Risi try out to work on various skills. Such as distress tolerance for doing something new and somewhat scary. Since Ris is on the autism spectrum, she is hesitant to try new things. She’s also a bit of a perfectionist and rather hard on herself, which is something we’re trying to work on her with, so she’s able to enjoy things without feeling like she has to be the absolute best.
What are your favorite kinds of games to play? Do you prefer board games, arcade games, platform, or computer games? Or are you not much of a game person?
I’d love to hear from you in the comments below! ♥
