Lately I’ve been stressed trying to balance things. Being mom, being a teacher, having kids on the spectrum, taking care of the house, taking care of pets, and working. Lately P and I have been trying to balance our schedules so that during the week days, we’re off work 3 of the days. One of us has a day off, the next is another, and then we take a combined day off. Just so we can both work and make money, but also so that we’re making sure things get taken care of in the house.
We’re also trying to work on spending time together as a couple, which isn’t always easy. Being a parent and being in a relationship and keeping that balanced on top of everything else isn’t easy.
So lately I’ve been trying to find ways to calm down and take a few minutes here and there when I have the chance. Something that doesn’t need to engage too much of my time, or too much energy. So if I need to drop it, it’s not a big deal.
Lately I’ve been playing a lot of Solitaire, and occasionally also Mahjong. Mostly Solitaire, as simple card games can be fun, and sometimes P and I even play it together. I usually know by about 3 minutes in if a hand I’m trying is or isn’t going to be a winnable game. Though my fastest time so far is about 1min 45seconds. Which is pretty awesome! Sometimes I get a little too into trying to be fast, which can be stressful, so I am trying to just learn to slow it down and not stress myself too much on the subject.
The website I’ve been using also has Spider, FreeCell, Pyramid, Tripeaks, Golf and Mahjong. I actually don’t know how to play any of those other than Solitaire and Mahjong, but that’s alright. Right? As long as in the end I’m having fun or just finding a way to unwind as much as I can.
Of course I could always learn how to play other card games that are on the computer. I didn’t even think to look for instructions on how to play TriPeaks, which I’d actually never heard of before. Is it weird that I don’t know how to play a lot of card games? I feel like aside from Solitaire and Go-fish, plus I think Blackjack (that’s a game right? hah!) I can’t really think of other card games to play.
Do you play any card games in particular? What do you to online that doesn’t take long but helps you unwind for a few minutes when life is move-move-move go-go-go level stressful so often?
I am hoping things will settle down soon, but I don’t think I’ll stop enjoying playing Solitaire or Mahjong anytime soon.
I just remembered too, I’ve never actually PLAYED either of things games not just on a computer as a simple pass time. I remember the first time I ever played or heard of Mahjong was when it was on Windows ME as a free game you could play. The song that played during Mahjohn on Windows ME was one of the few things that put my oldest to sleep at times when she was going through an awful bought of being a colicky baby.
Have you ever played Mahjong before? How often, if at all, do you play any card games?
