It’s no secret that on top of depression and anxiety I also have a very big problem with SAD. SAD is short for Seasonal Affective Disorder and I struggle every winter with it. To be honest, I should really work on my goal to move out of a state with a harsh and cold winter with little sunshine, and move back down south where it’s not a big problem.
For now though, I know my Vitamin D levels are usually very severely low, even worse in the winter, and for that, I’m thankful that things like the Verilux Happylight Touch exist!
For many years now I’ve looked into getting a light therapy lamp that could help with my SAD and Vitamin D levels. However many were extremely expensive and out of our budget, so I didn’t pursue the idea very far despite the idea being brought up many times by doctors and therapists.
I was happy to see that Verilux offers their Happylight variety at prices that aren’t super high. They offer a compact model that is only $39.95 and would be a great starter one if you are looking for light therapy but don’t have a lot of money to spend.
So far I’m still on the lowest brightness setting of the Happylight Touch! I’ve only had it a few days though, so maybe someday I’ll be able to up the brightness. I think I want to get some tinted glasses to use with it, as my eyes tend to start to feel a bit worn out while in the process.
I’ve noticed some improvement in my mood and energy levels on days I use my Happylight! I use it for about 30-60 minutes a day and tend to feel less tired and it really does help me get through more of my day.
This lamp has full spectrum, UV-free light and is clinically proven to have 10,000 lux intensity. You can choose between daylight to warm white light, and in the picture above I was using warm white. There are also three different brightness levels.
I’m really happy to finally have a Verilux Happylight in my life, and really wish I would have gotten one sooner! I also have Sisi and Kat use it to help with their SAD as well. Overall I might end up needing to get a second and third one so that I don’t have to wait for them to do their light therapy before I do my own. :3
If you or someone you love suffers with SAD I highly recommend checking out the Verilux products for yourself and seeing if one would work out for you or them. This would make a great gift to someone this holiday season and bring a bit of light to their life.
