6 MOST COMMON MYTHS ABOUT SLEEPING YOU BELIEVE
Do you think that on the weekend you will be able to compensate for the days or hours of insomnia? Or are you convinced that every human being needs to sleep no less and no more than eight hours? Well, you are wrong! In fact, all of this is just myths we believe about sleeping. To be fair, you should be more critical of these, and better find your perfect sleeping schedule. But what are other myths about sleeping we know? Bellow I am going to share six most famous ones, and I am going to bust them too!
Myth: on the weekend you finally will be able to sleep
Nothing sounds more appealing than long weekend’s morning in bed after long and exhausting mornings when you had to wake up very early to get to work. But in fact, this is not how you should act. Sleep is not a tasty snack you can get from the drawer and eat the next day as much as you want. And this way you can even make some harm for yourself too! If you sleep longer on weekends, it will always be harder to wake up on weekdays.
Therefore, it is recommended to make a sleep schedule and keep to it seven days a week, meaning that you should wake up at the exact hour even if you are not going anywhere. Trust us, you will feel more energized instantly, and after some time, it won’t be a problem to wake up in the morning at all.
Myth: you will sleep better in a warm bedroom
Well, definitely not, especially if it gets too hot. Your room temperature should never be more than 68 degrees or maybe even lower. In fact, if you sleep in a pretty cold room, you might even lose some unnecessary weight as well! According to the American Sleep Association research, cold temperature makes metabolism faster, and so your body burns more calories!
There is another aspect of this as well – it is your bedding and pillows too. If you choose ones from materials which don’t “breath”, your sleep might get worse as well. Especially during summer then night are pretty warm. Sweating and warm will make a very unhygienic bubble in bed which nor gives comfort, nor is safe. Therefore, better invest in good sheets and beddings and always choose ones made from natural materials like cotton. You can find real great quality sheets at your local specialized stores or even at Target online! Moreover, if you use some of these discount and promo codes while shopping, your investment will be a lot smaller although you still get high-quality items.
Myth: every night we need to sleep for 8 hours
Eight-hour rule has been pretty popular for many years, so naturally a lot of people firmly believe that every person should sleep exactly eight hours per night to feel better. However, the truth is entirely different. There is no exact magical number which tells how much a person should sleep. For some, it is just enough to sleep through the night for six hours, others need eight, and others feel great and energized after ten hours of sleep. Therefore, one golden rules how much time you need to rest does not exist, and you should try to find how many hours you need by yourself.
Myth: The food in the evening is harming the quality of sleep
The good news for foodies who love to snack at night – a small, rich in carbohydrates and protein meal one or two hours before sleep helps the brain produce serotonin, which helps to calm down and relax. Therefore, the myth that we should not eat anything at all before going to bed is not exactly right.
If you really want to eat better choice low-fat ice cream, fresh berries or fruit and enjoy. If this option is not suitable, you can also eat a rice bar with a spoon of peanut butter and have a relaxing and great night for sure!
Myth: long nap during the day will help you to feel better
Definitely not. If you get used to afternoon naps, your sleep cycle will get even more disrupted. It will be like a vicious circle: the more you sleep during the day, the more difficult it will be to fall asleep at night. So, if you feel like you absolutely need to recharge your batteries during the day, you can really take a nap, but do not let yourself sleep for more than 30 minutes. Sleep experts say that sometimes even 15 minutes of sleep can be just perfect and they called that pretty fun – power naps! Try them out!
Myth: Before going to bed you should not engage in any activities
In most cases, this myth is true, but not when it comes to sex. Sex not only helps to fall asleep but also will help you to relax and forget all the worries. Let’s not forget that it make the bond between two people stronger as well. So, a little bit of activity like that before going to sleep won’t harm at all, and actually will help you in many cases!
