You’ve decided to have renovations done, and you want to get contractors now. Where do you start, and how do you make sure the process is a smooth one?
Ask for a Free Quote
Always get a quote on the work you want performed before signing a contract or hiring a renovation company. Be sure the quote is based on the results you want. Does it include a cleanup guarantee, for example? Or enough specifics about the materials and finished look you require, such as a certain brand of flooring? Make sure the contractor can provide details. Renovation Experts is an example of an experienced company that can provide you with a free quote.
Set Milestones
Make sure measurable milestones and completion dates are included in your contract. If the contractor does not normally provide these, be sure to ask them to do so before work begins.
Check References
Once you’re satisfied with a quote, but before you begin work with your contractor, obtain at least 2 references for renovations they’ve recently performed. Be sure to contact those references. Ask about what’s most important to you, and your renovation project. For example: Did the company finish on time? Did they stay within budget? Did the finished product closely resemble the agreed-upon work? Did the work go smoothly?
Doing a little work in the beginning can help you obtain the renovation you want, and keep lines of communication open for a smooth and successful renovation experience.
