I can’t believe we’re already a month into summer break! Wow, I’m sometimes surprised when I manage to survive it. Usually because Var can wear me out like there is no tomorrow.
I wont say it’s been easy, but I would like to say that I absolutely love a product I found on Amazon to get for him!! Calming the Child Synergy Pre-Diluted Essential Oil Roll-On 10 ml (1/3 fl oz). Ready to use!
((affiliate link, I’d make a small bit of money if you purchase from it!))
This summer has been different in many ways. I can’t believe that the past year has changed our lives in so many ways.
Kat’s back is doing amazing and her most recent X-rays show amazing change, I know that surgery changed her severely inside, of course it did! How could it not?
Still, I never expected how much it would change her aside from physically.
She smiles a lot more! Kat is vibrant, beautiful (she’s always been beautiful, but she has this energy and life now that she lacked for the year and few months she was in severe pain due to her spine), and full of life and smiles.
Before and shortly after, look at the amazing changes the surgery did for her!!
I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t think there’d be much of a change between the 5 day post op and 6 week post op.
Boy was I wrong! There is an amazing change and I didn’t expect it. I get so many answers of ‘just a back’ (meaning 0 pain!) now that it’s amazing. She can stand without almost falling over!
After her sleep study to check on why she had some trouble with breathing in her sleep and always being so tired and a bit grouchy (can you see the hospital bracelet on her hand?) Sisi decided it was time for a haircut! So we went for layers and will soon be bleaching out the pink and going down to platinum for it! She looks so much different with this hair style!!
Risi got to experience our pool for the first time, and loves going to play in the water. Lisi and Var like to pull or push around her floaty and have a good time. I was a bad mom and forgot sunscreen and my pale self got burnt. Yikes!!
We had a fantastic but relatively low key (for the most part) 4th of July. The day was pretty standard until it was time to start grilling dinner. We did shrimp, chicken and burgers. Chips, Watermelon and various veggies to snack on during the cooking time too.
We did our usual Mentos and Diet cola to start off our fireworks time, but this year decided to go with more fountains and higher priced items than cheap little things that bored the kids so easily last year. We had some REALLY awesome things that I am so glad we spent the extra money on!
Risi went to bed before Fireworks time on the 4th, so we saved some small fountains and ground blooms for the following morning so she could experience them.
The oldest three have left to another week at their dad’s place. They left Sat and will be back Sat. After another week here they have a two week with him, during which Cid, Lisi, Risi and I will be heading over to Seattle and the surrounding area! There are other Daiso’s I want to see, Lisi has never been to Seattle being old enough to remember, and Cid has never been there for longer than staying in the greyhound bus station waiting for a bus!
We have plans to ride the monorail, try a light rail … train? Go up the space needle, show Lisi and Cid Uwajimaya, and not sure what else just yet. Though we better pick soon, we already have the hotel/motel booked! We’ll be gone the 28 – 30th, because I want to go for more than one night with having to turn right back around. Wee!!
Ja matta ne!

Wow! I have had the same back surgery from scoliosis! She looks like she is doing very well. I had it when I was 14 and had the harrington rods put in, but mine start underneath my shoulder blades and go down I believe. It definitely saved my life. Its such a hard thing for a teenager to go through though. It was for me. Hope she is doing well.

She’s doing great! The hardest thing for her was wanting to get it done in the first place, I let her mull over the decision at first. Because I felt like it was her body so she should have time to think about it. In the end she struggled to be able to decide what to do, so I told her what I thought was the best course of action. We went from here. The time in the hospital was pretty rough, mainly because she just wanted to get home and get to her more comfortable surroundings. You know?
She didn’t want to get up and walk at first because it was hard, but it’d been hard for awhile because of what the scoliosis did to her balance. But I told her, we can’t make it out of here unless you can go through everything the doctors say you need to go through. That spurred her to just do what needed to be done and we got released Monday after the Wednesday she had her surgery. 🙂

Wow, it looks like the surgery did wonders for her, so glad it went well! It looks like the kiddos had tons of fun in the pool. My girls would swim all day everyday if I let them.

This year definitely HAS flown by. My hubby and I just celebrated another year together on July 8th. 😀 Speaking of hubby, he suffers from scoliosis as well. I’m glad your daughter was able to get through the surgery and is now standing tall. What a trouper she is.

Is your husbands scoliosis bad enough to need surgery?

Scoliosis is no fun, it’s something I have dealt with all my life! I wish my parents had gotten mine taken care of when I was young too!! She’s a lucky girl to have such a great mom!
