Last week on Wednesday I called in to have Cookie set up for an appointment for his neutering. The receptionist pulled up my file and then goes “oh I have some kittens, do you want to take care of them?”
A year ago, back when Kofi was still alive, they had asked me if I would be willing to foster kittens since I had done so well taking care of a sick mouse by dropper feeding it KMR. I said of course, I mean… why not?
So that day we went up to the vet after Kat’s chiropractor appointment and picked up four absolutely adorable two week old kittens! Ahhh!!
I’m not really sure how much they weighed the day we got them, I do know yesterday when I weighed them using the kitchen scale they were 10oz (the three boys) and 9oz (the one girl.)
At first Tori and Puuny seemed interested in the kittens asleep in their carrier but only vaguely. Cookie seemed upset that I smelled like different cats and went and sulked in the bedroom…
Until it came time to feed them right before I went to bed that night. That was when everything changed, and Cookie decided he was so interested in these babies that how dare I even consider putting them back in the carrier! Every time I put one of the kittens back in the carrier after feeding it, he went right in there and took it out by the scruff of its neck.
So we brought out the big bin you see above that we bought to use as the Kittens nest.
Which caused Cookie to decide that he was going to take the care of the babies, because he needed to do so. Yes, he likes to stand guard near their nest now, which is placed right next to my closet. If I move the nest he will get ‘mad’ and come to take the kittens away. Even if we are feeding them.
Yes, he even keeps guard AS I am feeding them. Even when I have a pile of kittens all over me, Cookie is nearby, making sure that they don’t cry too hard. If they do happen to cry too hard/loudly he will take them away, hide under the bed and give them a bath until they’re calmed down. Which can be a little difficult, when I have an overly fussy kitten who is hungry… but just so hungry because I wasn’t fast enough making the formula that they’re overly whiny.
But of course, eventually everyone is all settled and babies are fed their milkies. Sometimes, if a kitten wakes up and I have a bottle that I need to wash next to the bed he will attempt to get the bottle and drag it to the nest. As if he is actually going to manage to feed the kittens at 4:55am with nothing in the bottle. 😛
Thankfully, despite him being rather protective, once he knows they’re all settled in Cookie returns to his normal “Momma’s boy” state and comes to nuzzle me to sleep. This is normal for him, he likes to nuzzle, lick, and then drool on my neck to get all comfortable at night. It appears to be a comfort thing since he was forced to wean and was taken from his mom so young. 🙁 poor baby. Hopefully the kittens will be bottle fed until they’re ready enough to wean without feeling all sad and needy! Not that I mind, but I know many people would mind having a cat drool on their neck.
Cookies happy little babies sleeping in their bed. ???

Oh I am so in love with all of them, and I am worried Cookie will be so bad when ‘his’ babies have to go! D: It’ll be a little hard to let them go.. okay probably more than a little. But I know they all have homes waiting for them to be big and strong and not so needy. 🙂

I love cats and had a rescue cat years ago, and would love to get a kitten but sadly Lee is allergic and I am also developing allergies as every time I visit my Dad his cat makes my eyes itchy and gives me a runny nose 🙁 would love one of those bald cats though 🙂 hehe

Allergies are a huge issue at our home too 🙁 My husband, sister, and nephew all react pretty badly. Oh well, our dog would probably be terrified of cats anyways, lol.

I just weaned a bottle baby rescue & all my other cats wanted nothing to do with her, but my pit bull decided that was her baby!! She is weaned for a month now & Lanee still follows her everywhere, licking & obsessing. Animals are funny!
