One of the presents that I found odd to be requested this year was requested by my 7 year old son.
His request?
A Cakepop Maker.
No, I couldn’t understand what that was doing on his list.
Did he mean one that you see on TV? The pan? The actual machine? The strange kiddo one where the ‘cake mix’ requires nothing but water and ‘bakes’ without being heated at all? (ewwww?)
So many options, and I have no idea what to do!
In the end, I ended up buying him this exact one from BigLots. The price was right, and if he didn’t like it… at least I would. Right?
To my surprise he was actually VERY happy to get this! He asked me “does it make REAL cake pops?!” as if somehow it could make fake ones. After looking at all my options for cakepop makers, this one seemed good. I’d handle the machine, he could do the other bits.
Or yanno, all four of them could give a go! I was lucky to find a ‘cakepop kit’ on sale 50% off at Walgreens right after Christmas. Woo! It came with candy melts, a small cake mix, sticks and sprinkles. The perfect little kit to let Var give his new machine a go!.
Yes, I did do the baking, thank goodness because today I burnt myself on the thing. If this was an easybake oven or something, I would have let him do the baking himself.
He LOVES making and eating cakepops now, and today I used a full cakemix and made us a ton of them. Of course Lisi and Var helped with some of the decorating, but I have to say that I’m really glad I got him this machine and that he requested it!
No no, this isn’t a review, this is just a general life post on cakepops and how we’re having a good time with our new toy. It’s something that all of us can do, even Aussie got in on the fun of decorating a cakepop today. ^_^
I can see myself being able to do cakepops for school birthday celebrations now!
They take awhile to make though, so I’d have to work on them the entire day in advance, but I think it’s completely doable for me!
It’s also killing my diet because the kids keep offering me half eaten cakepops. @_@

Like my reuse of the egg carton? It was there on the table and I just knew it’d be perfect to be a stand for the pops! Woo!

It really helped! I didn’t have any foam around like most people seem to use, but the egg carton worked! 😉
Funny, my 8yo son requested a cake pop maker last year, I am going to have to dig it out, we are stuck home this weekend and looking for something to do. The egg carton is a great idea, very resourceful!
I am making a cake tonight and I plan to frost it tomorrow. The egg carton idea is great for cake pops, but, I don’t eat eggs and I would have to ask someone for their empty container.
So cute that he wanted one of these! I’ve seen some wonderful ideas to do with this product, but have not broke down and bought one yet. Thanks for sharing your photos, the kids look like they’re having fun!!
I’ve wanted one for a long time now I think I NEED it! lol great use of the egg carton.
