We got to try all of Simply 7’s new products and I was so excited that we received full out bags of chips to get a decent taste test in instead of just small sample bags to try and pass around. I feel you really have to experience a chip more than once to really get a taste for it. You know?
There are three different ‘types’ of chips, but various different flavors. The types are Pomegranate, Lentil, and Hummus.
Now, I’ve never tried anything Hummus before these chips, in fact I was all “what is hummus? some hippy food type thing… right? why would I want to try that stuff?” Yes, I can be silly. I realize this.
The Pomegranate flavors are White Cheddar, Sea Salt, and Black Pepper.
The Lentil flavors are Sea Salt, Creamy Dill, Bruschetta and Jalapeno.
The Hummus Flavors are Spicy Chili Pepper, Roasted Red Pepper, Tomato Basil and Sea Salt.
Talk about flavor overload! Whew! Okay, not really, but there were lots of flavors to try and I was really excited to get to try them all. We’ve been snacking on them off and on for awhile now. Ever since the giant box showed up at our door.
The view above is of the Sea Salt Pomegranate chips, not too bad flavor wise, but I wish they had a bit more of the sea salt flavor in all the sea salt varieties of the chips. They’re good and simple chips, but some of the flavors are more adult friendly/likable than they seemed to be for the kiddos. I really love the color of these chips!
Starting with the Pomegranate chips.
Pomegranate White Cheddar – These chips were liked most by Aussie and I, with a “Noooo” from Kat, a “Yuck” from Sis, “Low” grade from Var, and “Not Like” from Lisi. These are still some of my favorite of the entire bunch. But I’m a big fan of things that are white cheddar. So it’s hard to mess up.
Pomegranate Sea Salt – Again I wish for just a little more of the sea salt flavor. I like the fruity but crunchy quality of them, these are Aussie’s favorites I believe. The kids didn’t like these at all.
Pomegranate Black Pepper – I thought these were good, and neither Aussie or I noticed much of a flavor difference between these and the Sea Salt flavor. We both agreed that they could use some more pepper really. Sis did like these, but none of the other kids did.
Next for the Hummus Chips!
Hummus Sea Salt – This was the favorite of ALL the kids I believe. This got a “loves my favorite” from Kat, “Love” from Var, “Two thumbs up” from Lisi, and a “Good” from Sis. Aussie and I felt they were good but a little plain compared to some of the others we tried, still we like them.
Hummus Roasted Red Pepper – I liked these a fair bit, Aussie did too, the flavor is subtle and not too “peppery” if you get what we mean. Kat liked these, Var gave them “Medium”, Sisi likes them and Lisi … well she didn’t. But that’s alright. Not everyone can be pleased yanno?
Hummus Tomato Basil – I wasn’t so sure about the flavor at first. But I really did like them, they remind me of a flavor of hamburger helper. Which isn’t a bad thing. Aussie said they’re not and “very basily.” They are a very herby flavor I will admit. Kat did not like these, Var said “Triple Perfect!” super excitedly, Lisi loved them and Sis marked them as “Okay.”
Hummus Spicy Chili Pepper – These aren’t too strong of a taste, not really spicy too much either. They have a great crunch and were the first hummus ones we tried. They have a nice little kick and work well for us adults. Kat voted No, Var says a little too spicy, Lisi says no, and Sis says too spicy too.
Next for the Lentil chips, yay!
Lentil Sea Salt – These reminded Aussie and I of Rice Cakes! They have a similar texture and crunch, we like them. Kat says they’re plain but she likes them, Lisi loved them, Var gave them “medium” and Sisi says they’re “good.”
Lentil Creamy Dill – I think these are like a pickle, they smell like pickle and the taste reminds me of a pickle. I like pickles, more so dill pickles. So these did good with me. Aussie liked them as well, but only one of the kids liked them. The reactions went Kat “No!”, Var “Yucky!”, Lisi “EWW!”, and Sisi who says actually “okay”
Lentil Jalapeno – Aussie and I liked these, and I felt the spiciness was good for my cold and poor stuffed nose. Kat didn’t like, Lisi either, but Var loved them and Sis said they’re good but Spicy.
Lentil Bruschetta – This was the flavor I had no idea how it was going to taste. I have to say these are my favorite! Great taste, great crunch, just good! Kat claims “Those are way too spicy,” Var and Lisi both love them and Sis gave another “Its Okay” out of them.
Well.. that’s really it! The long and the short of it was that us adults liked the flavors and textures more than the kids did for the most part, though there were some favorites and they’re now all gone!
They’re worth a try if you’re considering trying out a new type of chip!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
