My kids I mean. With my going Gluten-free to see if there were any benefits I could have from it they’ve decided they want to go gluten-free as well. Yes, even if it means they can’t eat things that they used to eat, they’re loving getting to try the things that I now can eat.
We’ve tried the local pizza place that offers gluten-free pizza (and they deliver too!) and does everything they can avoid with any cross contamination. It was delicious and the kids enjoyed getting to sit down and eat pizza with me. Last time we had pizza I couldn’t have any at all.
The youngest two love white rice bread that the rest of us didn’t like. With Nutella between two slices they think it’s like eating a cookie sandwich. The rest of us are happy with Udi’s sandwich bread even if I find it a bit dry.
The kids have enjoyed my failed first attempt at making gluten free donuts, which came out more like gluten-free fry bread with cinnamon and sugar on it. They loved it, I hated it.
They have no problem with having to cut things out of what we buy, and actually… their supportiveness in going Gluten-free has made the entire process easier. Even if they ask me “are you sure we can go Gluten free even at school?Doesn’t that mean you have to stay up late and make us lunches?”
They also help me shop by checking the back of packages, and their excitement over what we CAN have makes the fact that shopping takes longer as I navigate products not near as awful as I really thought it would be.
I mean, how can I not be happy about what I can have when they get a huge smiles and “YAY”s when I tell them that one thing or another is something that yes… yes we can eat.
Sweet kids, I tell you, sometimes I realize I must be doing at least something right with them.
Of course, how could you not love such a geeky little grin? Sis here went shopping with me the other day, and helped me find things we could all eat gluten free wise. It was good to get some one-on-one Spider-bear time, and to get out of the house. The awful spring break weather has all of us a bit @_@ lately.
Well, I just realized it’s midnight. My Soc studying and reading for the essay due Sunday for Hist wont do itself. I better get rest so I can work on it tomorrow night.
Oyasuminasai minna-san!
Ja matta-ashita!
(Get some rest everyone! See you tomorrow!)
