But it IS freaking messy as heck! 😉 I couldn’t find cherries, nor did we have the correct candle for the cake. But Kat and her friend A were really really REALLY wanting to make a cake and try and make it look like the cake from portal. So, messy chocolate frosting, whipped cream, cherries (strawberries in our case, Safeway did’t even have Maraschino Cherries?!) and a candle.
This is actually the gluten free chocolate cake mix that I talked about before, frosting that I made sure that it said was gluten free (I guess you can never be too careful?), whipped cream, and strawberries. I have to say that really for a gluten free cake it wasn’t too bad, but I think the girls were right that the butter wasn’t ready enough and mixed in enough so it was just slightly ‘off’.
I think next time, I will greatly encourage the use of applesauce in place of the butter. That’s what I do for regular cake/brownie mixes. Applesauce instead of the oil they recommend.
Regardless, the girls (Kat and A) were really excited to get to use the mix while I was at school. Nana was here babysitting and I came home with the two so excited. They couldn’t wait for me to make a quick store run to get the frosting and berries. @_@
All in all we really did enjoy the cake, and I let A and Kat take the last three pieces (I made sure to cut 9) home for A’s mom, dad, and little sister W.
I am mainly sharing this because Kat excitedly said ‘You should take a picture and put it on your blog!’ So, for you kitten-love, here is the post for your cake. Which for sure is not a lie. 😉
