I am so excited to get to share these products with you guys! Who doesn’t want food, and really snacks, that not only TASTE good, but are really good for you?? I know that I do! I always look for things that can be good for the kids and I, while still tasting like a treat, in order to put them in our ‘snack box’ in the bottom cabinet.
I got one of each of Boundless Nutrition’s Oatmega Wellness Bar’s and Perfect Fit Protein Cookies to try and review, and permission to hold a giveaway!
Of course, you know me, I had to start with the Chocolate Chip Protein Cookie.
Now that I think about it, I really should have gone ahead and made sure that I took a picture of the cookie. Though I will admit that I kept every wrapper for this review, and even wrote down all of my notes about the products as I got to try them.
As you can see, the cookies boast 150 calories each, 10 grams of Protein, 4 grams of Fiber, and 3 cups of Green Tea. Hmmm, I expected actually that this cookie could not taste like a decent chocolate chip cookie with THAT much Green Tea in it!
Still, here are my thoughts, as written as I was enjoying the cookie.
Chocolate Chip Protein Cookie: Soft Texture, smells good and is nice and chewy. Taste is amazing for what is in it, there is a slight vitaminy aftertaste, but not too bad at all. I would eat this again, but would love to try this slightly warmed up to see if having the chocolate slightly melted gives a certain melty goodness that I love in chocolate chip cookies.
I had to admit, I was a little leery of this cookie too. I mean, Gluten-free? No soy? Wheat… OR Egg? How is this going to be good? o.O Also, while I do every now and again enjoy a White Chocolate Macadamia Cookie, it’s not exactly my first cookie choice.
White Chocolate Macadamia Protein Cookie: This cookie has a very similar texture to the chocolate chip cookie. It’s far nicer than I thought it would be, and I didn’t find myself minding the aftertaste at all. I would eat this cookie again, but I prefer the chocolate chip.
Now, I am extremely picky on Peanut Butter cookies. Usually, I don’t like them unless I make them I’m so darn picky with them. Still, I wanted to give this cookie a fair chance. I also had the kids home when I did this test, so I allowed those that wanted to try this cookie a part of it to try.
Sisi’s review: Smells good! Really soft, tastes like a normal Peanut Butter Cookie, no aftertaste aside from peanut butter that she noticed. Happily ate Kat’s piece.
Var’s review: Agrees that this smells good, tastes like a normal Peanut Butter cookie, would love more. Are there more???
Lisi’s review: Nice and soft, “I like it too!”
Kat doesn’t like peanut butter much at all really, so she declined taking a taste in the cookie, which is fine. The three that did try the cookie however, said they they would gladly eat this as a snack if I bought them for the snack box!
My review: Even though I am picky, I did enjoy the taste and texture of this cookie. For a PB cookie not made by me, and more so one with health benefits like this one has, I am pleasantly surprised. Yes, even I would eat this cookie on a regular basis!
Now onto the Oatmega 3 Wellness Bars!
I have to admit, I can be picky on my granola/protein/health bars too. There are a total of maybe 3 (I think it’s probably only 2) Balance bars that I will actually eat due to flavor and/or textural issues. If the bar has too much of a vitaminy aftertaste, or the texture is just wrong I will simply toss it!
So, I can be hard to please here, even if I do attempt to at least try new things. ^_^;
This is actually the first of the Oatmega 3 Wellness Bar’s that I actually tried. Why not go with something I figured I would actually like? More so into such uncharted territory as something with DHA and Green Tea packed into a standard sized bar that was supposed to be dark chocolate and mint flavored?
Dark Chocolate Mint Wellness Bar: I was surprised how, normal granola barish this bar looks. These is a nice smell with it, minty, and chocolaty of course. The bar is overall soft, but with a nice crunch inside and overall I like the texture. There is a good balance of dark chocolate and mint flavor, so nothing is overwhelming. There is somewhat of an aftertaste, but nothing too bad or unpleasant that I wouldn’t eat this again. I guess the crunchy bits are “Whey Protein Crisps”, and I really like them!
Now this bar I was the MOST afraid of trying! I am not much for…. most fruits really. Though I DO like blueberry muffins, and pomegranates normally. I wasn’t sure how I would do with them in a bar. Really, I would have put them off until the end, but I just ‘wanted to get this over with’…. having as much of an open mind as I could. I actually tried this bar as my 3rd product from my box of items to review.
Blueberry Pomegranate Crunch Wellness Bar: Admittedly, I’m afraid of the taste. Still, the bar smells good, and has the same soft texture but good crunch as the Dark Chocolate Mint bar. The taste actually isn’t bad, with no strange aftertaste…. Actually, the taste is pretty good! I’m surprised! I actually ate the entire bar, and would actually eat more! Surprisingly for me!
This is another product I let the kids try as well! I wasn’t really worried about the flavor of this, I thought it’d be pretty good to be honest.
Kat: Liked the smell of it, and thought that it tasted ‘pretty good’ for something with peanut in it. The softness and crunch together are strange at first, but she would indeed eat again.
Sis: “Kinda tastes like marshmallow”, but she wouldn’t eat this again.
Var: Liked it okay, but not enough to keep eating his piece.
Lisi: Didn’t like this at all.
My review: Personally, I am used to the texture. I like the taste, but do not really notice a peanut flavor at all? I would eat this again of course, because I like the taste even without any obvious peanut taste to it. I don’t actually see the ‘marshmallow’ flavor that Sis got from the product though. o.O
This bar I tried and had Lisi try some as well, the other kids were away for the weekend with the ex-h. This was the last of the products I tried only because I wanted to get to the others first. Nothing against Mocha, I actually like Mocha’s. They’re my preferred coffee intake method after all! 😉
Lisi: Did not like this at all, she didn’t eat much more than a tiny bite.
My Review: This is the same soft texture with crunch as the other bars, there are chocolate chips, but I don’t notice a coffee flavor at all? There is nothing really that says “Mocha” but more like “Chocolate Chip” bar. Not that it’s the worst thing ever, because I do enjoy the chocolate flavor a fair bit, and would indeed eat this again. It would ‘be nice’ if the coffee flavor was more noticeable, but all in all I really enjoyed the flavor of this bar despite that.
Final verdict? I enjoyed pretty much all of these products. Well okay, I enjoyed them all each in their own ways, but we clearly have some favorites here. I would buy the Peanut Butter Cookies for the kiddos, and likely the Blueberry Pomegranate bars, Chocolate Chip cookies, Mocha bars and Dark Chocolate Mint bars for myself. Those are the ones that are the real keepers for me. 🙂 Aussie likes Macadamia, and come to think of it I likely should have had him sample the White Chocolate Macadamia cookies. Heh, hindsight?
