Braggy/Proud mommy moment for a second here:
My Oldest won 1st place in the school spelling bee, and tonight will compete in the district spelling be!! DD2 (oldest middle) did not make it past the school wide bee (but she’s only in 3rd grade so they don’t qualify for district anyway) but she did do pretty good as it was!
Still, considering they both come from a mom who back in 6th grade herself (my oldest is in 6th grade) wasn’t able to spell the word ‘Kitchen’ this is pretty exciting. Heck, this is just exciting either way!
I am proud of both of my big girls for making it past their class rounds, and even making it into the school wide bee!
Tonight is the district bee at one of the two local high schools!! Ahh, I’m so nervous for her! She said this morning she hopes that she wins, I told her not to stress too much on it, because even if she doesn’t making is this far is still really awesome! Both of them making it to the points they made it is pretty awesome to be honest.
Her 1st place ribbon is hanging up on the dining room wall and I told her in a bit I’ll let her go hang it in her bedroom too. I just wanted it on household display for a little bit.
When I picked her up from the school yesterday after her special chorus practice after school let out, she came running to the car and I could just feel the excitement before she even got in the van. When she showed me that ribbon and the certificate I couldn’t help but squeal!!
I’ll share the results of the spelling bee tonight after things have settled down once we’re all done. If she wins tonight, she’ll go on to state. From there if she wins she’ll get invited to do the national bee over in Washington D.C.! Talk about exciting stuff!!
UPDATE:
I could feel her nerves from across the room, she hesitated, and then …. was sadly out within the first round. She cried heavily, though she had her best friend there to support her (her friend actually got out on this same word during her school’s spelling bee!), and all of us as well.
She was one of just four 6th graders in the entire district to make it into the district bee. So this is still one of those great things that she should be proud of. I got her a stuffed animal to snuggle with, and said ‘this isn’t for how the district one went, but he’s for you to snuggle in happiness at how well you did during your class and school bee’s. Focus on those the best you can, and try not to focus too much on this one.”
She’s looking a bit better now, snuggling with her pink stuffed dragon and having watched some funny video clips.
We’re still so proud of you baby girl, you made it super far and don’t forget that fact!
