I am insanely harsh on blenders. I actually broke four of them in the span of three years! It’s not that they last and then they just quit. Often, I break them a few months into having them and then just refuse to buy one, or got teased into not buying a new one. ‘Tch, why are you even looking at another blender? You’re just going to break it.’ Yes, I heard those words before (not from the kids, but from the ex.)
Still, my love for a certain blended coffee drink is an expensive habit, and not having a blender really dampened my spirits. After over a year of not having one, and with an entirely different boyfriend (now fiance.) I decided, darn it, I really DO want/need a blender!
A spent a few hours hemming and hawing over what I wanted in a blender.
For one, I didn’t want a blender that relied on that strange, grippy plastic drive. The type that seems to strip far too easily when you’re trying to blend ice, frozen fruit or, in the case of one of my plastic drive blenders Oreo’s for cookie truffles. Yum. So for me, an all metal drive was a must have.
Another thing was the price, and weight over the overall unit. Too heavy and it could far too easily go the way of one of my other blenders. Crashing down off the top of a high area just to shatter all over my kitchen floor if I went for a glass cup/jar. Still, plastic has been flimsy so I needed something that could easily be pulled down by my short self without falling to it’s death.
After a bit of a search on amazon I was lucky enough to come across a blender that works wonderfully for us!
Which is the Oster BCBG08-C blender.
Oster BCBG08-C 6-Cup Glass Jar 8-Speed Blender, Brushed Nickel
I have had this blender for almost a year and a half now. I’ve accidentally dropped the cup/jar and have yet to break it at all. The all metal drive makes it so I can crush ice for my favorite coffee drink, frozen fruit smoothies, AND I’ve crushed nuts just enough to make them usable within Baklava!
Above is my blender after having crushed up 8 large ice cubes during the making of my coffee. A few more presses of the Ice Crush/Pulse button makes perfectly smooth coffee or smoothies to enjoy.
Look at how smooth and perfect that looks!
I don’t have the add on Milkshake Blade that can be bought for this blender. But I haven’t really had any problems making milkshakes with the blender as it comes right out of the box.
While the blender is a bit noisy, it seems to be standard with lower-priced blenders that they are loud. I would love to find a quieter blender with a similar price tag. But for my budget, this blender is perfect for what we wanted here at home.
